Here’s one question that we often get asked by our students: what to do if their lover doesn’t join them in their spiritual path?
The answer is very simple: Let Love Rule!
Many people who are on the spiritual path come across this issue. This can either be because they already are in a relationship when they enter the path and their partner is not following in the same direction or because they have a longing to be in a long lasting love relationship and they fall in love with someone who is not on the path and is not (yet) interested in it. Should we only be dating spiritualists from now on?
‘Ya, that’s right, you got to let love rule!’ Lenny Kravitz’s 1989 debut studio album (by that same title) nailed it! Whether you are on the spiritual path and you find a lover who is not on the path, ‘you got to let love rule’ and love them completely.
Look where you want to go, look at your highest spiritual aspirations and then it’s best to simply walk the path and be radiant. Let the other one be who they are and love them as they are. And if they are inspired by your path and by your example, they will join you! Certainly if your beloved has an openness towards spirituality and you are as inspiring and radiant as you can be, they will want to walk the path with you or at least give it a try.
The opposite might also be true, you might not be on a spiritual path, but your new lover is. You’ve been searching the internet to find solutions on what to do. Well, fear not! Simply let love rule and love them completely. Allow yourself to ponder: what do you want from this relationship? Do you want merely a physical connection? Do you want an emotional connection or even a spiritual, deep soul connection? What do you want? Contemplate your own path and from there clarity will appear and you will know what is the right direction to take. Make that a priority and be very very honest with yourself.
In both cases, see if your relationship is inspired by your path or not and if your path is inspired by your relationship.
Most importantly, if you have love and you are willing and able to just love, it doesn’t matter who is where, either on, or off the path! Simply Love! And ‘You got to let love rule!’
