The Tantric Path as a Woman

We might wonder: why does the tantric path need to be different for a woman? Indeed, there is not much difference. The female tantric aspirant will follow a similar general path from ignorance to enlightenment, progressing from overcoming the ego to awakening the soul, and ultimately revealing the Self. The path is the same for both men and women. But the perspective upon the path as it is walked is different.

Women in Modern Society

For a woman, it can be extremely helpful and liberating to embrace (and first of all to know!) her feminine nature. The view of women in Tantra allows women to recreate a connection with their feminine nature that most likely has been lost in modern life. Nowadays, the world and society are structured around the lower masculine energies: competition, violence, materialism – the feminine nature doesn’t find much support in that world.

Women have a special way of relating to each other, but also to nature. Embedded in their structure is a deep need for connection, community and intensity. Embracing the intensity of life fullheartedly is severely lacking in the Western world, but can easily be accessed by the woman inside herself and then radiated into the world.

Femininity in Tantra

In Tantra, femininity is not just “allowed” or tolerated, but it is revered and celebrated as an asset. We might assume that old scriptures are only focused on males, since the practices only seem to be described from their point of view. It is written how they should place the female in the centre of a ritualistic mandala to adore her in different forms. Women might wonder what practice they should do.

But in Tantra, the woman is seen as the mandala itself, the mantra itself – she is an inevitable expression of the divine – she only needs to remove her distorted viewpoint. In that sense, she doesn’t achieve the goal through acquiring something.

The path of the woman in Tantra is to discover what is already there – to remember that she already holds the whole universe and all energies in her being, and to become a living embodiment of the Supreme Godly Feminine Being: Mahashakti.

If you want to dive deeper into your feminine essence, we invite you to join our ongoing Women’s Circle in Chiang Mai for all women seeking deeper connection with themselves and others.
