In the following article, we will give a short review of the biography of Sri M. Some yogis gave him this name. He was Muslim-born. He describes in his book some past lives with the great Mahavatar Babaji, the founder of the lineage of Yogananda.
Sri M’s Childhood
He had some spiritual moments as a child. Some yogis came to visit him and gave him certain spiritual powers. At the age of 19 or 20, he left everything behind and went to the Himalayas to find a master.
A beautiful thing in India is that often Muslims have a Hindu guru and Hindus have a great Muslim saint like Saiab that they take as their guru. There is a beautiful tolerance of mystics in India.
Searching for the Guru and Life in the Himalayas
When Sri M. gets to the Himalayas he tries to find a guru. He goes up to Padena and meets a lot of fake gurus. He goes through a lot of ordeals. He gives himself to total despair until he finds his guru.
He finds that his guru is the same great yogi that he met when he was a child. He spends a few years living in the Himalayas with this great yogi, living the proper life of a sadhu. He came from a wealthy family and then lived as a beggar in the Himalayas, eating what he was given and sleeping in caves. He received initiation into Kriya Yoga.
What is very inspiring about the book, is that his guru was extremely inspiring. He was very firm, very Shivaic, very manly, and very elevated. The relationship between them, the love between them, and sometimes the harsh education that he receives, is extremely beautiful.
Many different miracles spice up the book very much. Sri M. travels onwards. He meets all sorts of yogis. He meets some direct disciples of Sivananda, Svamicitananda, and others. He goes on a pilgrimage and has visions of Sai Baba and other great yogis.
Married Life and Today
And then he withdraws from the world. His life becomes simple. He marries and has a wife and so forth. From time to time he meets his guru to receive more guidance. Eventually, he spent some good years with Krishnamurti. And then he receives a subtle command from his guru; “now is the moment”, and he starts teaching.
The book is very beautiful and very interesting. It is inspiring and it is about recent times, as Sri M. is still alive. He was on YouTube manifesting rudraksha from thin air. He is a very sweet man.
When he speaks about his master, with so much love, it is extremely beautiful to see. It is a great book to get a feeling of the Himalayas and that the spiritual tradition there is still alive.
He was there in the 1960s and 1970s. I am sure today there are still these great yogis and masters living there. This book gives a feeling of that. If your heart aspires to be touched by the great masters, this is indeed a very inspiring book.
